Post 15: Point of View

To me the most important thing we have learned in this class is about point of view. It is something I never though about being a major component of literature like setting, tone, ect. I also never though about it in movies and in books and how it plays a role in the story. The point of view according to the book "refers to who is telling us the story and how it is told." This is important because without that aspect we could be lost on the main point and characters of the story we are reading.

Post 14: Joseph

"A Doll's House" was set in 1879, In the 1800's women were not treated the best. They really had no rights and were considered only to be home makers. They did not work unless it was on the farm with the spouse, and were expected to do what they were told with no complaints. compared to modern day women that is the complete opposite. Women now have the same freedoms and liberties as a man does. They are no longer "property" and should be treated as such. Women can now vote, own weapons, work jobs, and so much more. They are not defined by their husbands or fathers like they were in the late 1800's

Post 13: Hurt Locker

This is a hard on to decided between, but my favorite movie I would say would have to be The Hurt Locker. I love it because it shows the truth behind what happens in the military and what war and conflict can do to the person in it. Its setting is second year of the war in Iraq. This is important to the movie because it is what happens in the battles and how its affects people both on and off the battle field. Without this setting for the movie not much would make sense to the average American as to why these service members are over run by depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Getting to see what happened to them and where it happened gives you a better outlook on the situation and what caused them to have the mental issues later.

Post 12: MIA

In the poem "next to of course god america i" by E.E.Cummings we can get easily confused with the construction of his writing. To this I see the overall symbolism in the poem being about the use of young Americans being sent to fight for something they should not be flighting for. In the line "Why talk of beauty what could be more beautiful than these heroic happy dead who rushed like lions to the roaring slaughter they did not stop to think they died instead then shall the voice of liberty be mute?" I break this down as the young being groomed for war and to think that all of the worlds issues have to be policed by them, so dying for this cause is something that makes them fell heroic or happy. I see a similar symbolism in the song M.I.A. by Avenged Sevenfold, "Walk the city lonely memories that haunt are passing by a murderer walks your street tonight forgive me for my crimes, don't forget that I was so young fought so scared in the name of God and count...

Post 11: Fist

I wanted to explain the metaphor in the poem "The Socks" by Jane Kenyon. In the poem she says "Then I fill your drawer with tight dark fist." She is not talking about actual severed hands in this instance she is talking about how the socks look like tight dark fist when they are rolled up in that manor. I think this is interesting because I do my socks in the same way but never thought of it like this until reading the poem that she wrote. To me it shows the resemblance that every day items can have in your everyday life.  In your chest cold and unwavering. The scars hidden from the world, buried deep under the skin. The trials and test of life become heavy and overcoming. Over all obstacles it still beats like a pumping fist. searching for a new light.

Post 10: The Lone Wolf

"They say the wolf on the hill is never as hungry as the wolf climbing the hill. Always be that wolf climbing the hill. It does not matter if you have to walk alone for a while, it is much better to walk alone in the right direction, than to follow the heard going in the wrong direction." (Fearless Motivation 2017) The lone wolf is the leader, the strong, the protector of the heard. They are what holds them all together but they go through the biggest challenges and the biggest right. This is the image in my life, is the lone wolf. They may have the worst struggles, but it is because they are the only ones strong enough to handle them. While the wolf is still dangerous alone they know together they can stop anything. This is something I have always aligned myself with definitely in the military. To me the wolf is an image of struggle, strength, perseverance, and sear will to overcome. I will also link the speech that was quoted in there too, it is a great thing to listen to ...

My life's tone

I think that my life's tone has changed over the years. It would have started as a happy, bright place. This was through my childhood with many great things happening and many opportunities ahead of me. This later would change though after leaving the military. After my medical separation life began to come down around me. I had many challenges ahead and struggled with mental issue more than I can begin to explain. From losing ones that I loved, to to overbearing pride that kept me from getting help, it all took a dark turn. I am happy to say now though that my life's tone is back on the up. I am very happy where I am at and I believe this shows in everyday life. I was able to get the proper help, overcome the challenges I was facing both mentally and physically, and surround myself with true friendship again. I think that our tone in life constantly changes though because bad things happen and we fight to secure happiness again. We just have to remember to keep pushing and al...
